The Bairro Alto would be fine, yes, but do try and go to a Casa de Fados (a place where you can eat and drink while listening to the typical Lisbon fados).

Historic places: The Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (Monastery of Jerónimos) - "musterios" means nothing -, the Castle of São Jorge (Saint George) with great views of downtown Lisbon, the Tower of Belém and the Padrão dos Descobrimentos would be fine, and several museums.

The pastéis de Belém (in the Belém area) are a must, yes. Portuguese beef isn't that good but you can go for the small huts for something more typical and then go to something fancier too. If you want Port (and you don't really drink Port with your meal), you must go to Porto/Oporto and remember it can only be "great" if you pay great. But Portugal has many great table wines, so you'll be ok.

Lisbon is Europe's second-oldest capital and after house to the world's best explorers like Vasco da Gama, Magellan and Prince Henry the Navigator, getting the initial true world city, the capital of an empire spreading over-all continents, from South America (Brazil) to Asia (Macao, China; Goa, India) and know you can spend a few day to learn this historic city, with hotelbye is wherever you must start. The absolute most acknowledged of Lisbon's important attractions may be the St. George's Castle. That fort instructions a glorious position near Alfama on the top of a hill overlooking the Portuguese capital. This really is among Lisbon's most widely used tourist destinations. Their remarkable battlements, engaging museum, and exciting archaeological website mix to really make the castle a gratifying knowledge for the whole family, and children specially will love clambering over the stable surfaces and towers that encircle the grounds.

GO TO SINTRA--- it is not in central lisbon, but has really great stuff to see. it is only about 30 minutes away. if you want to do everything there give it a full day and buy the tram pass at the beginning and it will take you all over.

BELEM_ lots to see, mostly within walking distance of each other. it would be an epic fail if you were in lisbon and never had Belem's pastry thing (i can't remember the name). they are sold by a specific bakery although there are fakes around lisbon (not as good though).

Ok, this thing's you can' really miss: TRAMWAY 28 give's you the best view of the city: from Martim Moniz to Prazeres, stop's in all important places: s. Jorge castle, bica, alfama, santo antonio church and so on. Lunch/brunch/dinner in any cousy little restaurant in Alfama

DO NOT BUY THE TICKET IN THE TRAMWAY: it's more expensive. Buy 7 colinas in a payshopp agent (any post office in lisbon sell's you one, then you jus't reload it. You can use it to subway also.

In Belém: [take tramway 15 from Praça da Figueira to Dafundo]. In there see Torre de Belém, Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, Padrão dos Descobrimentos, Centro Cultural de Belém (one of the biggest modern art collection is there). What to eat there: pastéis de belém, you'll see where it is when you go out the tramway!!! Lunch/brunch/dinner in Docas, underneath ponte 25 de Abril, I recommend you Celtiberos (not to expensive and very nice)

Take all the the city offers: Glória (by night: Bairro Alto), Lavra (there take a visit to Torel garden) Bica (nearby you have Brasileira coffe shop, Santa Justa (great view of the city).

Take the train to Sintra (from Rossio station), you'll get there in half an hour, cost's less than 4 € and it's beautiful: see the palace, quinta da regaleira, capuchos and eat TRAVESSEIROS.

Nightlife in Cascais and Estoril is 5 stars.

If your a night (drinks, nightclubs, music etc)tourist the Bairo Alto would be fine

If you like historic places theres: Padrao dos Descobrimentos, Torre De Belem, Musterios.

If you like food: Pastais de Belem < in Belem, its DELICIOUS, and choose a FULL portuguese menu in the small huts and not in fancy places. good portuguese beef, great port wine.
